Buying The Year: A Chick Fil A Employee Contest

Firstly: This is completely within the rules of the contest.

Tomorrow, or as some of you may be reading, today, is the start of a contest held for employees of Chick Fil A in Bakersfield. It's not a major contest, but the winner of the contest gets dinner and a movie. The goal, you may ask? Well, the employee who sells the most 2012 Chick Fil A Cow Calendars wins. The deadline is the end of December. Buy one. Buy seventy, and give them out as gifts! It's better than fruitcake, or used candy from last year...and grandma in idaho would actually enjoy this!

I'm totally shameless plugging myself on this, but I'd really love to win a free meal and movie. Especially because it'd mean a great date night for my girlfriend and I. If you so choose to help me out to win, you HAVE to buy from me at the store.

"Well Jake, what if you're not in there when I am, and we miss each other?"

Well, you can buy from someone else if you so choose, however, if you want to help me, I always try to post my daily hours I'm there on my facebook or twitter account. I hope for as much support as possible, as I'm a very competitive guy, but also a good loser to the one that wins in the end.

Two Days of Shiftwork, still alive

Family tradition: whenever one of us kids does something 'life changing' or 'new',
we take a photo in front of this tree...

Geez, You'd think I'd have died by now given how hectic Chick Fil A can get. I love this job so stinking much. It's definitely a lot of fun working that fast. I was shocked tonight when I was told to go on my 10-min break, and saw that two hours already passed.

Tonight was night two of training, and this time around they gave me a shot at working the register at drive through. I spent a good while learning to press the right buttons, as my co-worker would speak for me at the drive through, since I'm still working on correctly speaking to the guests with the usual CFA "I'd be happy to serve you", " *insert co-worker's name* will be serving you at the window" etc. As the night drew on, I did start doing that at the same time, but gosh it's hectic when you're trying to hear what the guest is saying, punch the order into the machine, get the drinks ready, and make sure you didn't miss anything they said, while trying to let them know their total, which window to pull to, and then helping bag the food for the window. I know that over time I'll catch onto working this madness, but gosh it was a difficult time the first go-around. I did pretty good for my first night though, according to the rest of my crew though, so I'm glad I did at least somewhat decent, apparently.

Overall, I'm beyond blessed to have such a great crew to work with, and a phenomenal place to work at. Really glad I got this job.

For now though, I'm going to sleep dreaming of peach shakes and chicken nuggets.
I'll be happy to serve you....
....tomorrow morning. ;)

Chick Fil A and my new employment!

Alright, so my phone can stop blowing up with texts questioning about my statuses on facebook and twitter, Yes I DID get the job at Chick Fil A today! On Tuesday I got a call back from the head manager asking if I was still interested in applying for a position at the company. Since no one else has called, I obviously accepted the invite for an interview.

Flash forward two days to today.

I show up to Chick Fil A a bit early for my interview, seeing that I really didn't want to be late, or even walking in right at 9:30. I grab a lemonade and wait for the manager to be ready, and we start. At first I was a little nervous, but I got comfortable, realizing to myself that I have nothing to lose, and I just have to be who I am. Why just give textbook replies, when that's not me?

So he goes over my class schedule, and makes sure that if I was potentially hired, they could find a position for me. We cover that, and go onto the rest of those questions like "can you work for long hours on your feet, deal with mad guests, work fast paced, and find work during a slow part of the day". I answer them honestly, and with a bit of humor, and towards the close of the interview, he offered me a position then and there. No "we'll be in touch in a few days" or "I'll let you know later today after talking it over". Just "would you like the position?".

Now I have to wait for the head manager to call me and schedule orientation, get my shirt size and everything else. So now I'm a part of the Chick Fil A family, and a very happy member of that family. This is a job I'll definitely really enjoy, and hope to last as long as possible.

It's been my pleasure serving you today.
